Edward F. Reed, 78, of Woodhull, NY, passed away at home on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Born in Woodhull on January 19, 1943, Ed was the son of the late Percy E. and Emma Aldrich Reed. On May 11, 1965, Ed and the former Norma Mary Miner were married in Gibson, NY. Norma survives. Ed was employed by Corning Inc., beginning his career with them in Corning, NY. With the growth of fiber optics as a product of Corning, Ed accepted a position in Hickory, NC in the new fiber optics manufacturing facility there. Upon Ed’s retirement after 42 years of service, he and Norma returned to Woodhull to make their home. A very active citizen of Woodhull, Ed gave of himself as a member of the Woodhull Fire Department where he served as fire police captain and was also a longtime Fire Commissioner and past Chairman of the Woodhull Fire District. He also had served on the Woodhull Planning Board. Surviving are Ed’s wife of 56 years, Norma Reed of Woodhull, his son, Douglas (Pamela) Reed of Conover, NC, his daughters, Tammy Hagerty of Casar, NC and Dorraine Reed of Woodhull, his grandchildren, Christina Reed, Wesley (April) Hagerty, Cassidy (Michelle) Reed, Cody Hagerty and Samantha Reed, 7 great grandchildren, his siblings, Keith, David, Delbert, Sharon, Shirley and Debbie, all of Bradford, PA and also several nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his father, Percy Reed and his mother, Emma Schoonover and sons in law, Wes Hagerty and Allen Foster. Following Ed’s wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Woodhull, NY.
