CANISTEO: Anthony “Tony” Holevinski, Jr. 102, passed away peacefully Friday evening January 7, 2022, at his home in Canisteo in the company of his son Bill and daughter-in-law Deb Holevinski. Tony was born November 4, 1919 in Elmhurst, Pa. to Anthony and Mary (Sarnowski) Holevinski. On January 19, 1944 in Scranton, Pa. he married the former Jean A. McCullough who predeceased him in April of 2017. Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp (Liaison Pilot) during WWII from September 1941 to November of 1945 and had received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Returning from the war he was a carman for Erie Railroad in Scranton, PA. In 1958 moved to Hornell, NY still working for Erie RR. He retired from Conrail in 1978. Tony also owned and operated a Sinclair Gas Station/Repair Shop (corner River and East Main in Hornell (1960’s). He also owned and operated Holevinski’s Salvage and Scrap Yard in the town of Canisteo (1967-1994). He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Tony is survived by four sons, Robert (Ann) Holevinski of Livonia, William (Debra) Holevinski of Canisteo, David (Linda) Holevinski of Plano, TX. and Michael (Christy) Holevinski of Larue, TX., 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- granddaughter. He is also survived by a brother Edward Holevinski of Mt. Cobb, Pa. In addition to his wife, Tony was predeceased by a daughter Linda Kyler, an infant sister, Helen Holevinski, brothers William, Walter, Thomas, John “Jack”, Steve and Chet Holevinski. Due to the COVID-19 mandates and travel restrictions, the family wishes to postpone visitation. A Memorial service will be announced at a later date to comfortably accommodate family and friends. Burial will be at the Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Thank you for your understanding. Memorial contributions in Tony’s name may be made to either the Bath V.A.
