CANISTEO: Beth A. Rauber, 63, of Cty. Rte. 119 passed away Monday afternoon January 31, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love and care of her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Beth was born January 27, 1959 in Hornell to the late Jack L. and Kathryn R. (Stewart) Bancroft. On June 5, 1982 in Stony Brook State Park, she married Brent Rauber who survives and resides in Canisteo. Beth was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1977. She furthered her education at SUNY Geneseo where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught for a short time in Rio Hondo, TX. Moving back to NY she did a bit of substitute teaching in the area, before working for Steuben ARC as a client coordinator. Beth was passionate about her work with the residents at ARC, but a back injury caused her to find her niche staying home and raising her family. Beth was a member of the Kanestio Historical Society, the Adirondack Museum and Wooden Canoe Heritage Association. As a member of WCHA, Beth learned to carve, taught classes and carved hundreds of name pins for the annual assemblies. She was a natural craftswoman and learned many skills including quilting, furniture caning, rug hooking and assorted other crafts. She enjoyed camping and spending time making memories with her family, especially with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband Brent, Beth is survived by a daughter Nichole (Adam) Button of Jasper, a son Christopher Rauber of Canisteo, three grandchildren, Evelyn Button and twins Emmett and Eli Button. She is also survived by a sister Susan Gage (James Barbour) of Middlesex. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bonnie Gielen and Cathy Kearney. The family will receive friends from 1-4 pm Saturday, February 5th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 4:00 pm. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery in the town of Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Beth’s name may be made to the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association's children's programs at www.woodencanoe.org.
