Obituary of Waneta M. Wood

Waneta M. Wood, 96, of Tannery Creek Road, Lindley, NY, passed away at home on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Born in Woodhull, NY on October 1, 1925, Waneta was the daughter of John Carroll and Mildred L. (Newland) Mead. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended Addison schools. Waneta married Richard Snyder on October 18, 1941 and they later divorced. She then married Vernon Wood on September 3, 1977. Vernon preceded her in death on October 17, 2011. Waneta was employed for a period of time by Corning Glass Works and later as a dental assistant for Dr. Louis Kunin DDS in Painted Post. She found her calling as a regional representative of WH Koch, a jewelry retailer, traveling between stores to set up jewelry displays. Waneta was a lifelong member of the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Addison. She enjoyed reading and solving puzzles and was constantly cleaning and caring for her home and property. Surviving are her children, Linda (Jack) Grover of Corning, Kathy Plumley of Painted Post, Paula Gates of St. Augustine, Florida and Richard (Deborah) Snyder of Wichita, Kansas, 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, her sister, Patricia (Thomas) Burritt of North Ferrisburg, Vermont and her loyal feline companion, Ambrosia. Waneta was predeceased by her parents and husband Vernon as well as grandchildren, John R. Grover, Ramona Grover Stedge and Joseph Bunyard, brothers, Kenneth Mead and Keith Mead, sons – in- law, Carlos Plumley and Christopher Gates, and step sons, Roger Wood, Robert Wood and Brian Wood. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 11 am at the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Addison. Rev. Joshua Barrett will officiate. Waneta will be laid to rest on the family burial plot in Elk Creek Cemetery, Borden, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Redeemer or any SPCA of donor's choice. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
