Obituary of Marjorie L. Henry

CANISTEO: Marjorie L. Henry, 83, of Eighth St. went home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning February 19, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love and care of her family. Marjorie was born June 25, 1938 in the town of Hartsville to the late Ernest and Luella (Evingham) Knight. On August 18, 1956 in Canisteo, she married Lyle Henry who predeceased her on August 12, 2017. Marjorie had been employed at the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell, St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell and also at Sterns and Sterns Textile of Hornell. Her lifelong occupation was being a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother throughout her life in the Canisteo Valley. She was a devoted member of the Hartsville Baptist Church and recently the Canisteo Baptist Church. Marjorie was a woman of faith, who loved the church and spending quality time with her family. She is survived by three sons, William (Yvette) Henry of Canisteo, Christopher (Kelly) Henry of Canisteo, Jeffrey (Jeanette) Henry of Howard, four daughters, Debra (John) Campbell of Cameron, Allison (Clem) Pierce of Canisteo, Dawn (Bill) Carpenter of Dansville and Andrea (John) Bederian of Warrensburg. Marjorie is also survived by a sister Carol Ritter of Hornell, brother-in-law Richard Bacon of Bellwood, Pa, sisters-in-law Marjorie Knight of Painted Post, Gertrude Knight of Canisteo and Roberta Knight of Hornell, 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Marjorie was predeceased by a daughter Pamela Wilson, brothers, Rodney, Ernest, Archie, John, Gary and Jack Knight, an infant sister Doris Knight and sister Linda Bacon. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, February 24th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will follow calling hours at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Hartsville Center Cemetery in Hartsville. Memorial contributions in Marjorie’s name may be made to the Hornell Area Humane society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, NY 14843.
