Corning, NY - Fred R. Allen, 94, formerly of Painted Post and Austinburg, Pa., died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Founders Pavilion, Corning. Born in Wellsboro, Pa. September 17, 1918, he was the son of Burt and Lela Rouse Allen. A graduate of Addison High School, he was a US Army veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a retired machinist from Ingersoll Rand Company, Painted Post and was formerly the sexton of Woodlawn Cemetery at Austinburg, Pa. He married Nina L. Calkins on June 22, 1946. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1996. He is survived by his daughter, Lucille Aspelund of Corning, his son, Richard Allen of the Philippines, his sister in law, Carol Allen of Corning, two grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by his son, Stanley Allen, his brothers, Phillip and Arthur Allen and sister, Gertrude Root. Friends may call on Thursday, December 6 from 1 PM to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY where funeral services will be conducted immediately following visitation at 2 PM. The Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate. Burial will be in Elk Creek Cemetery, Borden. Service: Thursday, December 6, 2012 2:00 PM H.P. Smith & Son Inc.
