Obituary of Betty JoAnn Norton

HORNELL: Betty JoAnn Norton, 80, of East Main St. ARC facility, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, April 21, 2022, at her residence following an extended illness. Betty was born July 25, 1941 in Hornell to the late Walter and Lola (Thompson) Norton. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law Paul and Barbara Norton, grandparents, Walter O. and Susan Norton, her uncle and aunt Harold and Catherine, “Aunt Kay” Norton. Betty is survived by a nephew Ricky (Valerie) Norton of Oklahoma, 6 nieces, Michelle (Leo) Micale of MA, Yvette (David) Schaeffer of NC, Yvonne (Steve) Germain of AZ, Suzette (Pete) Regini of GA, Paula (Earl) Leonard of NY, Heather (Bruce) Merrill of Ohio, several great and great, great nieces and nephews, one cousin Cynthia Norton of Canisteo. Betty attended the Canisteo Central School. She was every bit of a “people person” who enjoyed talking to people and joking around with them. She liked doing many kinds of crafts which included making bead necklaces, latch hook rugs, and decorations for the holidays for her room. She liked watching videos, doing puzzles, collecting stickers, going to holiday parties and visiting friends out of town. She enjoyed eating at McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts, loved shopping at Walmart for purses, headbands, watches, rings and clothes. She liked wearing different colors of nail polish and going to get her hair cut. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Sunday, May 1st at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 3:00 pm with Pastor Daniel Pickering officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to all the ARC Staff and workers for taking such wonderful care of Betty over the years.
