Obituary of David Linus Hood

David Linus Hood, age 84, of Cameron Mills, NY, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2022 in the comfort of his own home. Born June 14, 1938, in Medina, NY, he was the son of the late Linus Hood and Frances (Vanarker) Hood. Upon graduating Medina High School, David enlisted in the Marines and received an honorable discharge after four years of service. David spent his entire career working for the New York State Prison System. In 1992 he retired as the Superintendent of Otisville Correctional Facility. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, coon hunting, playing Texas Hold’em and training dozens of dogs to attend various field trials. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards his many home healthcare providers and the people at CareFirst Hospice in Painted Post, NY for their loving care and support during his most difficult days. David is survived by his wife Joan (Shaddock) Hood; along with his two daughters; Brenda (Lance) Ramsey and Paula (Robin) Hughes, four grandchildren, Maya Ramsey, Riley Hughes, Jared Ramsey and Paige Hughes; His loving nephew David (Michelle) Cooke along with several nieces, nephews, and relatives. Visiting hours for David Hood will be held from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM with memorial services beginning at 1:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2022 at H. P. Smith and Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St., Woodhull, NY 14898. Burial will follow at the Townline Cemetery in Cameron Mills, NY 14820. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Covenant Foundation or CareFirst Hospice 3805 Meads Creek Rd, Painted Post, NY 14870.
