Roger E. Taft, 72, of Cty. Rte. 21, Cameron, NY, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Monterey, NY on December 1, 1949, Roger was the son of the late Lawrence E. and Gladys B. (Impson) Taft. He was a 1967 graduate of Woodhull High School.
As a young man, Roger worked with his father Lawrence on the family dairy farm in Woodhull. Roger was employed for a short period of time at what is now Sivko Tannery in Canisteo. He eventually became a New York State corrections officer where he was employed at the Livingston Correctional Facility in Sonya. He retired from there in 2011 after 25 years active employment. In his retirement, Roger loved to go back to his roots and help friends and neighbors with farm work. He was a life member of the Woodhull Fire Dept. and was a past secretary.
On March 20, 1992, Roger and Joyce I. Stratton Wheaton were married at their home in Cameron. Roger loved his family dearly and savored time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Joyce Taft of Cameron, his children, Michael and Cathy Taft of Woodhull, Nichole Taft-Brown of Canandaigua, Bryon and Kiki Taft of Addison, Joanne and Jason Hoad of Woodhull, Sheila and Adrian Buckley of Monterey and Jennifer and Joseph Henry of Cameron Mills, his grandchildren, Kayla (Michael) Watkins, Tyler Taft, Carly Causer, Renee Hoad, Jordan Taft, Cameron Causer, Connor Causer, Izabella Taft, Ian Brown, Ava Henry and Zoey Henry, his great grandson, Waylon Markell, his siblings, Richard (Jean) Taft of Addison, Dorothy Watkins of Woodhull, Julia “Judy” Cooney of Addison, Fred (Cindy) Taft of Charlotte, NC and Edith (Robert) Sarviss of Addison, sisters-in-law, Marguerite Taft and Peggy Taft and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, his granddaughter, Ashley Greenfield and his brothers, Paul Taft and Floyd Taft.
Friends may call on Monday, May 9 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 1 pm with Rev. Brian Difenbacher officiating.
Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery.
