Obituary of Maria T. Converse

Maria T. “Tere” Converse, 65, of Duane St., Hornell, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022 in the Emergency Department of St. James Hospital in Hornell. Born in Madrid, Spain on June 17, 1956, Tere was the daughter of Concepcion Munoz de Agustin and Vicente Martinez Mayor. Tere met Victor E. Converse, a young US Serviceman in Spain and on July 11, 1980 they married in Madrid. She returned to the United States with Vic and they settled in Hornell where Tere was a homemaker and stay at home Mom. She truly enjoyed tending to her floral gardens and spending time outdoors. She was a wonderful provider to her family who always put others’ needs and wishes ahead of her own. Tere was a great cook and introduced her family to several Spanish dishes. Vic preceded her in death on January 24, 2017. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Jose Luis Martinez Munoz and Manuel Martinez Munoz and her step son, Mitchell Converse. She is survived by her children, Victor J. Converse and Doris C. Converse, both of Hornell, and Francisco Javier Burgos Martinez and Alvaro Burgos Martinez, both of Spain, her step son, Matthew Converse of California, her sisters, Concepcion Martinez Munoz and Pilar Martinez Munoz, and her brothers, Vicente Martinez Munoz, Juan Antonio Martinez Munoz. Friends are invited to an hour of visitation on Thursday, June 16 from 4 to 5 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 5 pm. Tere will be laid to rest next to her husband Vic in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY. Flowers and cards of condolence can be sent to the funeral home.
