Rest In Peace Miss Butler, I have great memories of her during my time at CCS as an exchange student. Just before I went back to Mexico on June'87, she said she had a present for me, something that will help me lifetime but said it was a surprise. When my time to travel back came up, she gave me one of those thick Houghton Mifflin Student's Dictionary, she had signed it off with a note saying 'Study this book!!' . She was right. My sincere condolences to her family.

My class was one of the first one's to have Miss Butler. She's always been my favorite teacher. Somehow I managed to figure out the perfume she liked. Every Christmas I got her a new bottle even when I didn't have her. She liked Tigress by the Coty company. I was a very good student and one time I got a 99 on my report card. I was so happy, still am to this day! I wanted to let her know how her having us read before class got me hooked years later to read. Back then we had to read Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliette, Of Mice and Men, and The Oddsey . I never read any of them! Then in the late 80's I was given three romance / native American books. I haven't stopped reading . My best gf, Jenny Mehlenbacher Simons told me about this author she liked. I started reading those books. Then just a few years ago Jenny and I had our names in one of her books as a dedication. I always wanted to tell Miss Butler and I know she would have been happy to hear about us having our names in a paper back book! I have won many contests by various authors . I have gotten books, book markers. t shirts, pens, a Christmas ornament , too. I thank Miss Butler for having me read those 15 minutes before class started. Jenny, sadly passed away almost 2 yrs ago so I know she greeted Miss Butler with open arms telling her all about how she influenced us later to read! RIP Miss Butler!

Miss Butler was one of my favorite teachers. I'll never forget the experience of discovering classic literature in her classroom. I left high school expecting to become a writer. We were lucky to have known her

I have many fond memories of Miss Butler's English classes in high school. Just last week I thought of her when I took a technical writing seminar at work. A couple of times my instructor said things that made me think "I'm glad Miss Butler didn't hear him say that!" My deepest sympathy to all her family and friends.

Carla was an educator. She knew how to teach & she knew how inspire. I am so grateful to her for caring about her students and for preparing us to go forward. And…. she had such a great sense of humor! For years after high school, I would stop in while on break and I always looked forward to visiting with her.

She was the one teacher that gave me my love of literature and writing. She was a remarkable teacher who I adored. She often encouraged me to write and I would give her short stories I would write and she was always honest but in a gentle way as to not discourage me from writing more. Sending my love and prayers to her family and friends.

Miss Butler was my favorite teacher because she taught English with personal passion rooted in sincere care for her student's holistic development. All aspects of my knowledge of English, use of Grammer and punctuation, volume of vocabulary learned, and college/professional writing abilities are from Miss Butler's effective, intuitive teaching style wrapped in patience and perseverance. I regret not having the opportunity to tell you in-person "that what you wrote in my 1978 yearbook (10th grade) was on point and I never forgot it. I dedicate earning my recent MBA (145 writings) completed in 10 months with a 4.0 GPA to you!! I was and still am so thankful and fortunate to have been one of your 7th - 12th grade students." Monday night, 7 friends from the Class of 1980 met to have dinner. During that time, the question was asked, "Who was your favorite high school teacher?" Three of classmates said, "Miss Butler", while the rest agreed that they indeed liked her as a teacher. Today a text went out from a person in the group with a link to her obituary. Although saddened by her passing, it was wonderful to think about how she was remembered the night before. As one friend mentioned, her spirit must have been nearby. One can only hope that she heard how much she was respected. Amy Brandes, Lisa Mathis (Allen), Debra Williams (Plank), Jana Crowe (West), Claude King, Fran Merrill, Greg Cacace
