Carl R. “Rudy” Krondahl, 89, of Woodhull, NY, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Corning Hospital.
Born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on February 7, 1933, Carl was the son of the late Karl and Elsa Pedersen Krondahl. He was a graduate of the Boonton, NJ High School. Soon after leaving high school, Carl entered the US Air Force, serving for over 21 years. He retired on June 30, 1974, having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. During his service in the military, he was involved in the installation and servicing of various radio and missile guidance systems.
Carl was a veteran of the Vietnam War as well as serving in Korea, the Philippines and on various air bases in the United States. Following his military career, Carl built radio systems for the Cessna Corp.
Carl married the former Sandra Hagstrom on September 20, 1956 in Elkland, Maryland. Sandy preceded him in death on November 4, 2017.
In 1984, Carl and Sandy moved from New Jersey to a farm in Bath, NY where they raised horses. They sold their farm and bought lake property in Woodhull, where they built a home and have resided for the past 28 years. Carl and Sandy were both former members of the Southern Tier Bluegrass Assoc. Carl loved playing his guitar, playing bluegrass and old-time music, and played at many bluegrass festivals. He looked forward to the picking sessions with his friends that were held in Elkland, PA each week.
Carl is survived by his children and their spouses, Carl and Tina Krondahl of Brooksville, FL, Cathy and Paul Ragnetti of Sparta, NJ, Kevin and Candi Krondahl of Madisonville, TN, Jonnee Krondahl of Woodhull, and Dakota Krondahl of Bath, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his sister, Sonya Murch of Lincoln Park, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Sandy, Carl was predeceased by his sister, Anita Krondahl.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 5 from 5 to 7 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held there on Wednesday, July 6 at 11 am with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Burial, with military honors, will follow in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
