It’s not often we get to honor a parents’ or loved ones’ request, but Mom had two and added one. When the glaucoma and dementia were starting to take over, she asked me not to put her in a nursing home and didn’t want to die in a hospital. As she became blind and couldn’t remember things, she also told me she didn’t want to be alone. It became a full- time job. I didn’t know if I could do it. I have two nieces that stepped up to help me. Without their help it would not have been possible. With the help of Diane Stratton and Sheila Marlatt, we made it work. I am deeply indebted to them. Thank you for the long hours, day after day. I will never be able to repay your kindness. Sincerely Uncle Jerry.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, July 8th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A private family graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Jasper Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Gerry’s name may be made to the Cameron Ambulance Fund.
