CANISTEO: Rodney H. “Rod” Teribury, 94, of Cty. Rte. 21, passed away Friday afternoon July 8, 2022 at the Bath VA Hospital following a brief illness. Rod was born May 12,1928 in the town of Greenwood to the late Harry and Sarah (Norton) Teribury. On September 24, 1955 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, he married the former Mary Doreen Dinn who survives and resides in Canisteo. Rod was a graduate of Canisteo Central school class of 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. army at age 17, where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. During his service time, he served during WWII, the Korean war and Vietnam culminating with 22 years of active service being honorably discharged in 1968 upon retirement. Rod and the late Ellsworth Henry, owned and operated Ell’s & Rod’s service Station on West main St. in Canisteo. Retiring from the gas and auto repair business, he continued his working career as a bulk mail deliveryman for the U.S. Postal Service in Hornell. He was a member and past Master of Morning Star Lodge #65 F&AM, where he was awarded the Dedicated Service Award. He was a member of the Canisteo American Legion and the Bath VFW. In addition to his wife Doreen of Canisteo, Rod is survived by three sons: Harry (Cindy) Teribury of Canisteo, Michael (Dee Ann) Teribury of Canisteo and Rodney Teribury of Newton Falls, one daughter, Rodena Teribury of Hornell, 9 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Rod is also survived by three sisters, Maxine Kapral of Berkley Springs, W.V., Wanda (Paul) Ferrier of Salsbury, MD, and Joyce Walrath of Leesburg, FL. and a sister-in-law, Janice Teribury of Jasper. He was predeceased by two brothers Roland and Donald Teribury. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 pm Monday, July 11th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, with a Masonic service at 7:45. Funeral services will take place Tuesday at 11:00 am. Burial with full military honors will be in Bennetts Creek Cemetery, Town of Greenwood. Memorial contributions in Rod’s name may be made to the Masonic Brotherhood Fund or to the Kanesteo Historical Society, Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
