HARTSVILLE: David B. Hurlburt, Sr. 72, of Cty. Rte. 64, Ashbaugh Hill, passed away Friday morning August 5, 2022 at his home, surrounded by the love and care of his family, following an extended illness.
David had been a mechanic at his home business, Ashbaugh Hill Repair and former heavy equipment operator for the Steuben County Highway Dept. out of Canisteo.
He was born February 23, 1950 in Hornell to the late Benjamin F. and Jean (Pullar) Hurlburt. On September 6, 1970 he married the former Esther Converse who survives and resides in Hartsville. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and small engine repair. He had a love for all animals and often took in strays.
In addition to his wife Esther Hurlburt, David is survived by daughter Lydia (Chuck) Stever of Howard, his son David B. Hurlburt, Jr. (Rena Sue Acor) of Hornell, 4 sisters, Linda Hosmer of Hornell, Kathleen (Martin) Eddy of Alfred Station, Christine Rowe of Conesus, Debra (Rodney) Finney of Bath one brother Steven (Sue) Hurlburt of Hornell.
7 grandchildren: Emily (Josh) Evingham, Kevin (Emily McCormick) Young, Ashleigh (Richard Andrews) Young, Zommus Hurlburt, Brittney(Matt) Crosson, Karissa Hurlburt, and Zackary Hurlburt.
5 step-grandchildren Charlee Stever, Madison Stever, Christopher Stever, Becky Lewis, Rhiannon Dailey, Zachary Dailey, Hannah Button and Tristan Rice.
13 great-grandchildren Rosalyn, Olivia, Landon, Karson, Bella, Logan, Blake, Kamdyn, Kolton, Karolina, Elijah, Malachi and Zephaniah and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by a sister Susan McDaniels.
Per David’s request there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
