Obituary of Thomas H. Coleman

GREENWOOD: Thomas H. “Hughie’ Coleman, 87, of Ste. Rte. 248 passed away Tuesday morning, September 6, 2022, at his home after an extended heart illness. Hughie was born March 27, 1935 in the town of West Union, to the late Thomas L. and Ruth L. (McAllister) Coleman. On October 30, 1965, in Rexville, he married the former Nancy L. Hall, who predeceased him on December 26, 2020. He was also predeceased by his beloved son Thomas J. Coleman in 2007. Hughie is survived by a son Danny Coleman of Greenwood, daughter, Tammy (Craig) Baker of Caledonia, granddaughter Deborah Coleman of San Angelo, TX. He is also survived by a brother Kenneth (Gerry) Coleman of Mechanicsburg, Pa, sister-in-law Jean Coleman of Rexville and Joanne Ordiway who was like a second daughter, also several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Leo and Francis Coleman and a sister Isabelle Cooney. Hughie, was a veteran of the U.S. Army faithfully serving our country from 1954-56. He had worked as a mill wright and in maintenance for 40 years at Dresser-Rand Painted Post, retiring in 1997. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and occasionally fish with his drinking buddies. He was a life member of the Greenwood American Legion Post 1425, Life Member of the Hornell Moose Lodge, Member of the Hornell Elks Lodge, Member of the Canisteo Legion, and past member of the Hornell Association. There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial mass will take place Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville, burial to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery for both Hughie and Nancy. Family and friends are also invited to a celebration of life for both Hughie and Nancy immediately following at the Greenwood American Legion, Main St. Greenwood. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in Hughie’s name to the Greenwood Fire Dept. 751 Andover St. Greenwood, N.Y. 14839.
