CANISTEO: Joyce I. Sharp, 82, of Second Street, passed away peacefully Thursday morning October 13, 2022 at her home surrounded by the love, comfort and care of her family, after a brief illness. Joyce was born September 18, 1940 in Hornell, to the late Clyde B. and Georgetta “Peg” Quick. On May 27, 1972 in Adrian, she married Robert L. Sharp who predeceased her in August of 2012. She was a life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley and had attended Canisteo Central School. Joyce had worked at the former St. James Mercy Hospital with the kitchen staff where she retired as the kitchen supervisor after 25 years of employment. After retirement she continued working at the RBI Sports Bar in Hornell for 5 years and finishing her working career after 3 years of service in the kitchen at the Canisteo/Greenwood Elementary School. In earlier years Joyce loved to “polka”. She also took pride in her garden, growing her own vegetables and other various plants and flowers. All-in-all though, her family meant the most to her. She loved to have picnics, barbeques, playing cards and just enjoying the company of her family. Joyce was a devote Christian woman who love the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canisteo. She is survived by four daughters: Bonnie (Tim) Smith of Cameron, Peggy (Cheech) Miles of Canisteo, Laurie O’Konski of Hornell and Valerie O’Brien of Canisteo, a son Larry “Chip” McDaniel, Jr. of Rochester, a step-daughter Penni Ilges of Georgia.12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great, great, grandchild, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two brothers, Daniel (Judy) Quick of Catatunk, Robert “Otis” (Laura) Quick of Citra, FL., a sister Shirley (Larry) Payne of Adrian and sister-in-law Nancy Quick of Canisteo. In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Quick and infant brother Gerald Quick, sisters Bethel Brown and infant sister Geraldine Quick and son-in-law Erin O’Brien. Per Joyce’s request there will be no calling hours or services. A celebration of life will be planned and announced at a later date. Memorial contributions in Joyce’s name may be made to the Canisteo Vol. Fire Dept. 14 South Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823 or to the Christian Women’s Club, HCWC /Care of Linda Chase, 480 Maple City Drive, Apt V1, Hornell, NY 14843.
