Obituary of Darwin D. Cook

Darwin D. Cook, age 87, died Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility after a brief illness. He was born in the family home on Cook Hollow to parents Evelyn Seeley and Delos Cook. He graduated from Troupsburg Central School. He worked briefly at Ingersoll Rand before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving four years. Upon discharge he went back to Ingersoll Rand where he was employed as a pipe fitter until his retirement from what would then be Dresser Rand after 38 years of employment. He was a former fire chief of Knoxville Deerfield Fire Department. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Knoxville, PA and in June 2021 received his 50 year pin. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping with friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents Evelyn & Delos Cook, his sister, Marie Longwell, first wife Hattie Thompson Cook Swetland, second wife Marion Burguess Childs Cook, nieces and a nephew. He is survived by children Faith and George Ebright, Marion “Marty” and Pam Cook, Darwin L. and Yong S. Cook and Dawn and Kevin Champaign, nine grandchildren; Rene (Ryan) hardy, Bradley (Amanda) Ebright, Thomas (Angela VanHuss) Cook, Robert Cook, Denee (Andy) Cornell, Andy (Catrina Husted) Cook, Tyler Cook, Aaron (Rebecca) Champaign, Adam (Jessica) Champaign, fifteen great grandchildren; Liam & Lillyanna Hardy, Brayden & Colin Ebright, Quincy, Zoey & Jase Cornell, Ethan & Darwin Cook, David Reynolds, Beau & Brody Cook, Makayla, Kody, Keira & Isabella Champaign. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 with visitation at 6 p.m. and services to follow at 7 p.m. at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St., Woodhull, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fingerlakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St., Bath, NY 14810.
