Obituary of JoAnn VanFleet

WALLACE: JoAnn VanFleet, 77, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, December 10, 2022 at Elderwood Nursing Home in Hornell, surrounded by the comfort, care and love of her family, following an extended illness. JoAnn was born June 8, 1945 in Bath to the late Glenn and Margaret (Leach) Payne. On January 25, 1964 at the West Jasper Wesleyan Church, she married Lynn L. VanFleet who survives and resides in North Hornell. JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, foster parent and friend. She loved horses, cows and deer, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, canning, bird watching, taking care of kids who needed a tender hand and lots of love. She was an avid fan of both Country and Gospel Music, an avid book reader. She enjoyed many Church activities and had been a director of the ladies group at church and Sunday school teacher. In addition to her husband Lynn, JoAnn is survived by her children, Vicki (Thomas) Moore of Bath, Bradley (Karlene) VanFleet of Fremont, Corey VanFleet (Amanda Buchanan) of Bath, Vincent VanFleet of Newport, KY, Douglas (Tracy) Rudd of Belair, MD, Jessica VanFleet of Hornell and John (Ashley) VanFleet of Elmira. Grandchildren, Zachary VanFleet (Mackenzie Henry-Ohara), Caleb VanFleet, Christopher (Lexi) VanFleet, Alexis VanFleet, Derek and Haley Rudd, Justin Bates, and Christopher and Paityn Buchanan. JoAnn was predeceased by an infant son and daughter, Barry and Kerrie VanFleet, granddaughter, Carrie Moore, Great grandson, Christopher Odell and a brother Gary Payne. The family will receive friends from 9-11 am Saturday, December 17th at the Wallace Wesleyan Church where a memorial and celebration of life will take place immediately following calling hours at 11:00 am. Final interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, N.Y. Memorial contributions in JoAnn’s name may be made to either the Christopher “Red” Odell Scholarship Fund c/o Wallace Vol. Fire Dept., the Wallace Wesleyan Church or the Hornell Area Humane Society.
