Obituary of Bernie Lubberts

Bernard L. “Bernie” Lubberts, 81, of Smith Road, Jasper, NY, passed away at home on Monday, December 19, 2022.
Born in Oldemarkt, Holland on August 6, 1941, Bernie was the son of the late Tacke and Emma Pees Lubberts. His family resided in Holland until Bernie was a teenager. The family moved from Holland to the United States living in the Rochester, NY area. While living in Rochester, Bernie completed his high school education.
Bernie was employed at Fredon Co. where he learned about machining equipment and processes while completing night classes at RIT. He was later employed at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester where he met his future wife. On July 28, 1978, Bernie married the former Carol M. VanOrsdale in Jasper. They settled in Woodhull, and he began a long career with Corning Inc. He was an equipment engineer for the die manufacturing machine shop located at Erwin, NY.
Bernie was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying any reason to be outside. He loved to hunt and fish which included annual trips with his family to Biscotasing in Ontario, Canada for 22 years. Since the age of 16, Bernie looked forward to spending time with friends and family during deer season. He had never missed a season until this year.
Bernie always liked to be busy, whether it was running rabbits with his beagles, mowing grass or spending time cutting firewood. He found pleasure and fulfillment in these simple things. He was a NASCAR fan and would often travel with friends to various tracks throughout the country. Bernie was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabers.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Lubberts of Jasper, his sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Carrie Lubberts and Bob and Peggy Lubberts, all of Woodhull, his grandchildren, David (Miriam) Lubberts, Bethany (Anthony) Herrington, Alexandria Lubberts (Michael), Noah Lubberts (Blaine) and Nolan Lubberts (Elizabeth) his great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Roland, Harper, Trinity and Kaydence, his siblings, Gerrit (Marcia) Lubberts, Nick (Monica) Lubberts, Grace (Jan) Nienhuis, Cor Lubberts, Rena Lubberts and Florence (Alle) Zijlstra along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his grandson, Joseph Lubberts and brothers, Tom and Herm Lubberts.
Friends may call on Friday, December 23 from 2 to 5 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 5 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Burial will be made on Saturday morning in Woodhull Cemetery.
