Obituary of Eleanor J. Smith

Eleanor J. Smith, 90, of St. Rte. 417, Addison, NY, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in the Town of Tuscarora, NY on November 5, 1932, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Weldon and Minnie (Kirk) Mather. She attended school in Elkland, PA where she was a 1952 graduate of Elkland High School. Eleanor married Harold E. “Chub” Smith on July 2, 1960. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2000. As a young woman, Eleanor worked for 3 years at Westinghouse Electric in Bath, NY. After leaving there she was a homemaker and stay at home wife and mother. Besides her husband Chub, Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, her son Evan Smith, and her step son, Douglas Smith. Surviving are her daughters, LaRae Smith of Addison, Sherrie (Daniel) Vitulli of Woodhull, Mariann Smith of Addison and Judy Smith of Addison, her son, Edward (Myra) Smith of Addison, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, her sister, Helena Myers of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13 from 12 noon to 2 PM at the Elkland United Methodist Church, N. Buffalo St., Elkland followed by a funeral service at 2 pm. Pastor Kermit Shrawder will officiate. Burial and committal will follow at Highland Cemetery, Elkland. A reception will be held in the social hall of the church after cemetery services. Memorial donations are suggested for Care First Hospice or the Elkland United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Woodhull, NY.
