Obituary of Glenn E. Drake

Glenn E. Drake, 87, of State Road, Middlebury Center, PA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Glenn was born in Canisteo, NY on July 20, 1925, the son of the late Prentice and Muriel Taylor Drake. He was a graduate of the Knoxville High School. He entered the US Army at the end of World War II and served in the Occupational Forces in Japan. On Dec. 5, 1947, Glenn and Mazie M. McClean were married in Borden, NY. Mazie preceded Glenn in death on Jan. 25, 2008. They purchased a farm in Farmington Township, PA where they made their life's home together. Glenn retired from Corning Glass Works after 34 years where he worked as a glass cutter. He also operated the family farm all his life, working hard to provide for his family. He spent many hours cutting wood which was his form of relaxation. Glenn & Mazie were longtime active members of the Elkland Moose Lodge where Glenn was a Past Governor. Besides his wife Mazie, Glenn was predeceased by his great grandson, Kyle Drake, his brothers, Clayton Drake and Wilbur Drake and his sisters, Linda VanDerploog and Clara Jean Powell. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Dale & Kimberly Drake of Middlebury Center, Connie & Duane Krommingo of Hopkinton, Iowa, Phyllis & Lewis Douglas of Middlebury Center, Richard & Linda Drake of Monticello, Iowa and Asa & Jennifer Drake of Mansfield, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, with another expected, 5 great great grandchildren, his brother, David (Elizabeth) Drake of Rochester, his sisters, Vera (Ralph) Kent of Woodhull and Lois (Frank) Marshall of Canaseraga and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday, Jan. 7 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral and committal services will be conducted there on Tuesday at 11 AM with Rev. Larry O'Dell officiating. Glenn will be laid to rest next to Mazie in Farmington Union Cemetery, Farmington.
