Obituary of Vera D. Kent

Vera D. Kent, 81, a resident of Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing and formerly of Woodhull, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Corning Center. Vera was born in Wellsboro, PA on October 15, 1941, the daughter of the late Prentice A. and Muriel (Taylor) Drake. On May 27, 1961, Vera and Ralph E. Kent were married at the Austinburg, PA Methodist Church. Ralph preceded her in death on July 12, 2016. Vera had worked through the years as a bookkeeper. She had been employed by Electri-Cord in Westfield and later by Albert Potter Farm Machinery in Troupsburg. She eventually operated her own bookkeeping and tax preparation business from her home. She and Ralph had been longtime members of the Woodhull United Methodist Church. Vera is survived by her sons, Brian (Linda) Kent and Curtis Kent her granddaughter, Amber Kent and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Ralph, Vera was predeceased by her siblings, Clayton Drake, Glenn Drake, Wilbur Drake, Linda VanDerploog, Clara Jean Powell, Lois Marshall and David Drake. Friends may call on Saturday, April 15 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Vera’s funeral service will be held there at 1 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Austinburg, PA.
