Obituary of Elnora (Feeney) Shaut

CANISTEO: Elnora (Feeney) Shaut, 96, of Fifth St. Canisteo Manor, passed away comfortably Sunday morning February 5, 2023 at her home. Elnora was born August 29, 1926 in Canisteo, to the late Lee D. “LD” and Gertrude (Childs) Burdick. She was predeceased by husbands Jack Feeney and James Shaut. Elnora was a lifelong resident of the Canisteo Valley. She was a member of the Canisteo First Presbyterian Church and choir for over 60 years, and a member of the “Canisteo Card Club” for well over 70 years. She was a former member of the Hornell Sweet Adelines singing group; she was an avid knitter making numerous Christmas stockings and tree skirts. In her earlier years she enjoyed camping and boating on Keuka Lake. Survivors include four daughters: Marsha (David) Fleming of Pittsboro, NC, Bonnie (Richard) Mider of Newark Valley, Kathleen “Kate” Engler of Buffalo and Dianne (Raymond) VanPelt of Forest Hill, MD, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Elnora was also predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Francis and Dale Burdick and a sister Marion Beyea. The family will receive friends from 11-Noon Saturday, February 11th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral services will take place immediately following calling hours at 12:00 noon. Committal and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
