Obituary of Lois A. Stiles

CANISTEO: Lois A. Stiles, 98 formerly of Dunning Rd. in Canisteo, passed Sunday afternoon, February 26, 2023 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. Since 2017 her home was at Manor Hills Assisted Living in Wellsville. Lois was born January 18, 1925 in Mt Morris to the late Hubert and Loretta (Reinartz) Stonebrook. On July 31, 1943 she married Pfc. Vincent C. Tucker in San Antonio Texas who predeceased her in June 1966. Lois is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Duane) Bruce of Granite Bay, CA, two sons, Lynn (Cynthia) Tucker of Swain NY and Gary (Susan) Tucker of Robstown, TX, 9 Grandchildren: Colin (Megan) Bruce, Heather (Steve) Gardner, Lindsey Bruce (Ryan Brewer), Ashley (Cody) Shedden, Christina (Eric) Canute, Ben ( Amanda) Tucker, Devon (Jeff) Klossner, Ryan (Margaret Smith) Tucker and Max Tucker. 12 Great Grandchildren: Natalie and Kyra Bruce; Matthew, Gavin, and Andrew Gardner; Beau and Evie Brewer; Jared and Tyler Canute; Leela, Sullivan, and Maeve Tucker. She is also survived by her sister, Wilma Rapp of Buffalo. She was also predeceased by an infant son, Gordon Tucker in 1946, infant granddaughter Rose Monet Tucker in 2001, grandson, Aaron Robert Tucker in 2014, and her brother Robert Stonebrook in 2006. On February 12, 1972 she married Basil L. Stiles in Garwoods, NY who predeceased her in September 2019. Surviving are step children Catherine (Greg) Rollins, Karen (Dan) Shu, David (Mercedes) Stiles, Michael (Teasha) Stiles, Mary Christine (Larry) Brasher, and their brother Richard (Brenda) Hawkins, 16 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren. Through World War II, the depression, pandemics, and personal losses she maintained her indomitable spirit. From “Rosie the Riveter, farmer, gardener, medical secretary, active church member to Manor Hills Resident Council President, there was no task too menial, no job too hard. Sledding party for her eightieth birthday, cross country skiing in her nineties, walking outdoors on her last days; she just kept going. At Family Reunions, camping, school events, family vacations, graduations, weddings and all the hard times, “Mom and Grandma” was always there for all of us, Always will be. The family will receive friends from Noon-2 pm March 3, 2023 at the Garwoods Methodist Church, a memorial service will take place immediately following calling hours at 2:00 pm. Committal service and burial will be at the Canaseraga Cemetery with a reception following at the church. Memorial contributions in Lois’s name may be made to the Garwoods Methodist Church, 10524 Cty. Rte. 15b, Canaseraga, NY 14842.
