Obituary of David R. Davis, Sr.

CANISTEO: David R. “Dave” Davis, Sr., 75, of Ste. Rte. 36, passed away peacefully Friday morning March 3, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family, after an extended illness. Dave was born April 3, 1947 at the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell, to the late Richard F. and Gertrude S. (Miller) Davis. On July 24, 1965 in Borden, he married the former Carol M. Bradley who survives and resides in Canisteo. Dave was a lifelong resident of Canisteo and had worked at the former Foster Wheeler Manufacturing Co. in Dansville, retiring after 33 ½ years of employment. He was a very accomplished welder, achieving the distinction of a General Fabricator Welder, which enabled him to weld anywhere in the world. Dave was a very avid race fan who enjoyed NASCAR stock car racing, favoring the team of Mark Martin. He also enjoyed watching his grandson Bryce Davis race stock cars at Woodhull Race Way and other area race tracks and he was a dedicated Buffalo Bills football fan. In addition to his wife Carol, Dave is survived by a son David R. “Russell” Davis, Jr. of Canisteo, two daughters Roxana (Greg) Sammons of Alfred and Nicole Davis of Canisteo. 10 grandchildren, Bryce (Hannah) Davis, Brendyn Davis, Danyka Davis, Katharine Mason, Zoie Arcarisi, Alexander Mason, Lucas Mason, Racquel (Matt) Thibodeau, Courtney Kilmer and Sarah Sammons, 5 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Donald (Barbara) Davis of Cameron, Eddie (Joanne) Davis of Woodhull and Douglas (Peg) Davis of Co., one sister, Sandra Calton of Addison, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Darwin Davis, four brothers, Richard, Raymond, Neil and Robert Davis, 5 sisters, Betty Crandall, Virginia Newton, Patricia Terwilliger, Beverly Martin and Joan Woodworth. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, March 8th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
