Obituary of Nancy H. Slayton

HOWARD/AVOCA: Nancy H. Slayton, 87, of Wallace Back Rd. formerly of Cty. Rte. 27 in Howard, passed away Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023 at St. James Hospital following a brief illness. Nancy was a life-long resident of the Howard and Avoca area where she was a devoted farmer’s wife, mother and grandmother. She was born October 22, 1935 in Avoca to the late Albert and Marian (Schmitz) Hubbard. On October 25, 1958 she married William B. Slayton, who survives and resides at their home in Wallace. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Nancy is survived by her children, Michael (Wanda) Slayton of Howard, Karen (Gary) Palmer of Howard, Kathleen (Steve) Coots of Bath, Steven (Rilda) Slayton of Howard, Robert (Karla) Slayton of Avoca and Kristine (Michael) Stowe of Wallace, 24 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren (and counting). She is also survived by a sister Rosemary Clairemont of Bath, sister-in-law Gretchen Hubbard of Avoca, sister-in-law Eloise Bowers of Horseheads, sister-in-law Jeri Slayton of Avoca, brother-in-law Winston (Rita) Slayton of Cohocton and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Nancy was predeceased by a brother David Hubbard, Sr., granddaughter Aimee Rose Coots, and brothers-in-law Gary Clairemont, Carlton Slayton and Earl Bowers. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, 6034 Cty. Rte. 69 Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 5:00 pm. A private burial will take place in Valley View Cemetery in the town of Avoca. Memorial contributions in Nancy’s name may be made to the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, 6034 Cty. Rte. 69, Canisteo, NY 14823 or your local Volunteer Fire Dept. or Ambulance Corps.
