Obituary of Joan A. Wilson

HOWARD: Joan A. Wilson, 82, of Cty. Rte. 69 passed away peacefully Thursday morning April 13, 2023 at her home surrounded by the love and care of her family, following an extended illness. Joan was born May 26, 1940 in the town of Avoca, to the late William and Doris (Pipe) Hamilton. On February 27, 1960 at the Avoca Baptist Church, she married Robert F. Wilson who survives and resides in the town of Howard. Joan was a servant of Jesus, homemaker, mother, and a beautician for several years working from her home. However, her passion was partnering with her husband as she worked beside him on their farm. Most recently, she and her husband attended Diplomat Wesleyan Church in Florida, but she served many years as a volunteer teaching 2nd graders for CYC at Buena Vista Wesleyan, working at VBS, singing in a trio at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite church, and providing food for many occasions. Her specialties were tapioca pudding, peanut butter fingers, raspberry dessert, and cinnamon rolls. Joan modeled to her family and others the gifts of hospitality and service with which God blessed her. In addition to her husband Robert, Joan is survived by three sons David (Gwen) Wilson of Wayland, John (Etta) Wilson of Howard, Timothy (Sarah) Wilson of PA; three daughters, Dawn (Hank) Wolfe of IN, Susan (Douglas) Mitchell of PA, and Pamela (Matthew) Pelletier of VA; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by a brother Paul Hamilton and a sister Joyce Lawrence. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 pm on Saturday, April 15th at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, #6034 Cty. Rte. 69, Canisteo, NY 14823 where a funeral service will take place immediately following calling hours at 4:00 pm. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Towelsville. Flowers may be sent to the church before 1 pm Saturday at the address above.
