J. Hubert “Zeke” Dininny, 99, of Addison, NY, died on Saturday, April 15, 2023 surrounded by family on the farm where he was born. He is survived by his wife Carrie Jean (Pierson), children Joanne (Kent) Coombs, Carolyn (Russell) Gridley, Karen (Douglas) Taft, Ruth Tilson, and John (Marisol) Dininny, as well as 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm at the United Methodist Church of Addison with a funeral service to be held there in his honor at 11 am on Thursday. The family also will be present starting at 10 am at the church prior to the service to greet visitors. Zeke was born on September 13, 1923 in Addison, NY to George Lyle Dininny and Vera Whitmarsh Dininny. His brothers Roland (Frances) and Richard (Blanche) Dininny predeceased him. He graduated from Addison High School in 1941 and pursued a degree in music at Fredonia State Normal School before returning home to work the family farm during WWII. In 1946 he married Carrie Jean Pierson at the United Methodist Church in Addison, NY. They resided and raised their five children on the family farm. Zeke was always active in sports, both as a player and a coach. He played high school and college basketball. He played softball and basketball for many years in various leagues for teams including Dininny’s Dairy, Addison Grange, and Old Timers. He coached Addison Little League baseball for 22 years and Small Frye basketball for several years. He was inducted into the Addison Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He belonged to Addison United Methodist Church where he acted as choir director, choir member, treasurer, and youth fellowship leader. He also belonged to Addison Grange, Steuben County Pomona Grange, NY State Grange, and National Grange, holding many offices including Deputy to State Master. For many years he was also Parade Chairman for the Steuben County Dairy Festival as well as Parade Marshall. He served the Addison Volunteer Ambulance, Addison Town Board (4 years) and was the Addison Town Supervisor (6 years). He loved music and played violin in Addison High School Orchestra and Corning Philharmonic Orchestra. He also played the trumpet in high school, in fireman’s bands, tri-county Grange bands, Stull band, Corning Philharmonic Orchestra, and with Walt Perkins and Ken Cornish in dance bands. His strong baritone singing voice and talent for harmonizing earned him national awards in Barbershop quartets. Zeke will be remembered as a knowledgeable, respected dairy farmer who generously and virtuously gave his 99 years to God, Family, and Community.
