Obituary of Harper Lynn Spencer
Please share a memory of Harper to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harper Lynn Spencer, 3 years old, became an angel on Friday, April 14, 2023 at her home in Woodhull, surrounded by her large, loving family.
Harper was born on October 2, 2019 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira to Mariah Hadlock and Jerreod Spencer and was diagnosed with a rare condition known as Zellweger Syndrome soon after her birth. She lived well past the age that her doctors expected her to. The loving care given by her extended family and her medical providers as well as being a strong, determined little girl allowed her to go on living and teaching everyone around her what true strength looked like.
Besides her parents, Mariah Hadlock and Jarreod Spencer, she is also survived by her large family including her brother, JJ Spencer Jr., her sisters, Chloe Spencer and Cora-Lee Spencer, her maternal grandparents, Paula Hadlock and Greg Heigel, her paternal grandparents, Jerry Spencer (Lisa) and Pam Sackett (Tracy), her great grandparents, Carla Rude, David Hadlock, Kenneth and Janice Sheive, Fred and Mary Robbins and Steve and Kathy Hartman, her aunts, Kylie Heigel (Kyle) and Haley Heigel (Buddy), her uncles, Ryan Sackett and Scott Heigel, first cousins, Malaki and Aspyn, God parents, Sis and Jay Caine and their children, Justice, Christian and Jason Jr. and several great aunts and uncles on both sides.
Harper was preceded in death by great grandparents, William Rude and Eleanor and William Heigel her aunt, Vanessa Sackett and Uncle Jesse Davis.
Harper loved music and would smile and laugh when her favorites were played. She also enjoyed watching her favorite cartoon, Bubble Guppies and liked anything with unicorns. She was a very strong and beautiful fighter. She brought so much joy to all that knew her. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed by all that loved her.
Harper’s family would like to thank and acknowledge all of her wonderful caregivers. The staff and doctors at the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Memorial, the nurses from Bayada Home Care and the home visiting staff of Care First Hospice. They would like to especially thank nurse Jenn Willow who Harper’s family truly believes extended Harper’s time on earth with her love and care shared on a daily basis. We also thank dear friends, Vicki and Henry VanCise for their constant support and assistance.
The family will greet friends on Thursday, April 20 from 3 to 5 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Harper’s funeral service will follow there at 5 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
There will be a Celebration of Life and dinner at a later date. The family will announce these plans when made.
