Obituary of Betty Jane Houghtaling

Bradford, NY- Betty Jane Houghtaling, 81, of Kiklowicz Road, Bradford, entered into rest on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, NY. Betty Jane was born the daughter of Sadie VanPelt in Little Marsh, PA on February 22, 1931. She was a very determined and self sufficient person who became employed at Corning Glass Works in Corning as a young woman. She worked as an inspector and had over 50 years of service with the company. She was married to Howard C. Houghtaling who preceded her in death in 1976. Also predeceasing her were her sisters, Lucy Clark and Wanda Gillette. Betty Jane made her home with her son on Lamoka Lake where she had many beloved friends and neighbors. She will be sorely missed by everyone in the community. A great animal lover, she adored her feline companions, Blossom and Opie. Surviving is her son and daughter in law, Howard J. and Kaye Houghtaling of Bradford, her grandson, Vincent (Bill) Houghtaling of Palm Springs, Ca., her granddaughter, Jane (Jon) Balcerek of Irondequoit, NY, her brothers, Lloyd VanPelt and Jacob VanPelt, both of Corning, her sisters, Marcia of Sacramento, Ca and Nettie VanPelt and several nieces and nephews. Following Betty Jane's wishes, there will be no services. She will be buried next to her husband in Barnard Cemetery, Caton, NY. Memorials in Betty Jane's name are requested to your local SPCA.
