Obituary of Marie E. Edwards

HORNELL: Marie E. Edwards, 72, of Madison Ave. passed away comfortably Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at her home. She was born July 30, 1950 in the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell to the late Leslie E. and Marian E. (Williams) Mead. On July 29, 1967 in Hornell, she married William C. Edwards who predeceased her in January of 2018. Marie was a life-long resident of Hornell where she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was happily retired and loved spending time with her family. She loved “live” music and dance, and enjoyed the Christmas season decorating her home. Marie could often be found walking her dog “Patches” in the neighborhood and in the summer time she could be found sitting and enjoying her quiet time on her back deck. She is survived by two daughters Marty (David Brackett) Edwards of Hornell and Roxanne (John) Alley of Hornell, a son Casey (Pam) Edwards of Avon, 8 grandchildren, Allison, Emily, and Vanessa Edwards, Patty Brackett, Ryan and Billy McLaughlin, Mikenzie and Rileigh Alley and one great grandson, Axtyn Wing. Marie is also survived by two sisters Linda (Richard) Burchard of Hornell, Mabel (Sullivan) Morabito of VA. two brothers, Merle (Shirley) Mead and Lawrence (Colette) Mead all of Hornell, sister-in-law Candy Mead of Hornell and brother-in-law Emanon Peeso of Liverpool, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Marie was predeceased by two sons Tracy and William L. Edwards, a brother Leslie E. Mead, Jr. and a sister Marlene Peeso. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Monday, May 8th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 5:00 pm.
