SAFETY HARBOR, FL. Elizabeth J. “Betty” Mayo, 94, of Safety Harbor, FL, passed away peacefully, Thursday May 25, 2023, at the Hospice North Pinellas Care Center in Palm Harbor, after an extended illness. Betty was born May 6, 1929 in Canisteo to the late Lyman and Gladys (Schoonover) Savey. On December 19, 1945 in Hornell, she married David Mayo who predeceased her in August of 2017. She had attended Hornell High School prior to getting married and while living in Jasper area she was an active member of the Jasper Federated Church where she taught Sunday school and was very active with the Women’s Group. After she and David moved to Oldsmar, Florida, she worked as a sales clerk for Sears-Roebuck, Co. in Clearwater, FL, several years retiring in 1990. Both she and David had attended the Countryside Baptist Church in Clearwater. She is survived by sons, John (Marilyn) Mayo of Wilmington, NC, Michael (Kimberly) Mayo of Tampa, FL and daughter Mary Lou (Mark) Jackson of Palm Harbor, FL; 6 grandchildren, Todd (Sheri) Mayo of Wilmington, NC, Adam (Brittney) Jackson of Fort Leavenworth, KS, Amanda (Gregg) Jones of Knoxville, TN, Alicia (Chris) Bennett of Miami, FL Taylor Mayo of New Port Richey, FL and Victoria Mayo of Tampa, FL Great-Grandsons, Alex, Braedon, Ewan, Rhys, Noel, Jack and Bradley a great granddaughter Claire as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by her dearly beloved brother and sister-in-law Deo and Ruth Mayo of Canisteo and sister-in-law Norma Misewicz. In addition to her parents and husband Betty was predeceased by a granddaughter, Tricia Hendrix, two brothers Donald and Charles Savey, and a sister Jean Schwitzer. Betty lived at Evergreen Manor Assisted Living Facility until May 13. Many thanks to Kathryn, CareyAnn, Vickie, Carmen, Matice, and the other health care workers. Until her fall on May 13 she was able to live a full, healthy life and made many new friends. She refused a walker and maintained a healthy appetite. The transition to Hospice took place on May 14. She received excellent care and she had many visitors. Family and friends are all welcome to a graveside service, Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Jasper Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow and light lunch served after the service for all attending, at the United Church of Jasper.
