Jane E. Hamilton Smith of Bath, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.
Jane was born in Corning on March 11, 1969 to Paul E. and Jane E. (Cartwright) Hamilton. Jane grew up on the hill in Rathbone, NY, attending Addison Central School from where she graduated.
Following graduation from high school, Jane had various jobs and traveled to Alabama and Oregon. She eventually returned home and worked in a variety of jobs including rug making and work in the service industry. She was employed for over 10 years in food service at the Bath VA Medical Center.
Jane had a caring heart and always lent a helping hand or a meal to friends. A lasting gift was her talent of building floral arrangements for family cemetery grave spaces for over 20 years. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Jane “Our Bump” is finally at peace and can now rest.
Jane is survived by her husband, Donald Smith of Bath, her mother, Jane Hamilton of Bath, her step daughters, Lindsay and Brianica, her siblings, Paulette Peterson of Savona, Elizabeth Prutsman of Bath, Paul (Lena) Hamilton Jr. of Glide, Oregon, James (Sue) Hamilton of Addison, Phillip Hamilton of Jasper and John (Lori) Hamilton of Addison, her aunt and uncle, Charles and Candy Cartwright of Trout Run, PA, her sister-in-law, Karen (Scott) Sincerbox, many nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved dogs, Neca and Missy.
Jane was preceded in death by her father, Paul Hamilton, her brother-in-law, David Peterson, her sister-in-law, Lori Hamilton and her dear friend, Debbie Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 11 at 12 noon at the Rathbone United Methodist Church with Pastor Mort Gridley officiating. She will be laid to rest in Woodhull Cemetery.
Memorial donations are suggested for the Rathbone United Methodist Church or the Wounded Warrior Fund.
