Marilyn Fish, 97 formerly of Canisteo, NY passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center of Canandaigua, NY following an extended stay.
Marilyn was born December 30, 1925 to the late Leslie and Lela (Page) Norton.
She was a lifelong resident of the Canisteo valley. A graduate of Canisteo Central School and Fredonia State College, Marilyn taught vocal music in Victor, NY and Canisteo, NY for over 20 years, and she was choir director of the First Presbyterian Church of Canisteo for over 60 years. Music was her life, and over the years, she participated as accompanist, singer, and director to many musical organizations in the area including the Orpheus Choir, the Hornell Christmas Cantata and Sweet Adelines, to mention a few. She loved boating on Keuka Lake as well as cooking, knitting, reading, and traveling. She also was a member of the KAHOKA and Delta Kappa Gamma organizations.
Marilyn is survived by two daughters: Barbara (Ron) Karr of Pulteney, NY, Deborah (Jeff) Rice of Keuka Park, NY, a son Timothy (Monica) Scranton of Prosper, TX; Three stepsons: Greg (Ann) Fish of La Grange, IL, Jerry (Sally) Fish of Portland, OR, and Daniel Fish of Andrews, Texas; 12 grandchildren: Eric Karr of Andover, NJ, Amy Mevorach of Natick, MA, Chris Rice of Mosely, VA, Dr. Jason Rice of Cardiff, CA, Carrie Hurd of Corning, NY, Sarah Holden of Corning, NY, Jacob Ford of Laguna Niguel, CA, Brandon Ford of Prosper, TX, Amanda Fish of La Grange, IL, Alex Fish of Rochester, MI, Michael Fish of Portland, OR, Natalie Hatheway of Portland, OR ; 23 Great grandchildren: Meghan, Emma, and Alex Karr, Hannah, Tabitha, Sarah and Maya Mevorach, Madison, Carter Rice and Colton Dari, Livia and Lola Rice, Logan, McKenna and Lucas Hurd, Keilan and Norah Holden, Kinley and Casen Ford, Elliot Fish, Avery and Irene Fish, Hugh Hatheway and several nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by husbands Francis Scranton in 1961 and Richard Fish in 2002, three sisters, Kathleen Caward, Dian Stephens and Jean Young.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
