Ronald D. Harrington, 93, of Troupsburg, passed away Saturday evening (July 1, 2023) at the Wellsville Manor.
Born in Troupsburg, NY on September 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Frederick and Cleona Harrington. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Wenger of New Jersey.
He was married on April 9, 1950 in Addison, NY to Mary (Burton) Harrington who predeceased him on July 26, 2003.
A lifelong resident of Troupsburg, he attended Troupsburg Central School. He was a proud dairy farmer who passed his knowledge on to his sons and grandchildren. He talked about farming right up to the time of his passing.
Throughout the years he was active in many organizations including twenty-five years on Agway committees, twelve years for Knoxville feed and thirteen years for Knoxville and Arkport petroleum. He was a member of the Extension Service for four years, A.S.C. Board for four years and Soil and Water Conservation for twelve years. He was on Farm Bureau as a member of the Soil and Water, also on the R.C.D. Board for Soil and Water Development Board in Painted Post for twelve years for Soil and Water.
He was a Troupsburg Town Board member for sixteen years and sold seed corn for DeKalb Seed for sixteen years. He served on the Pastor and Parish Relations Board for the Troupsburg United Methodist Church for four years.
He is survived by his sons, Ronald (Donna) Harrington of Troupsburg and Paul (Virginia) Harrington of Hornell. He is also survived by a brother Lawrence (Carol) Harrington of Texas, four grandchildren, Ryan Harrington of Ithaca, Kate (Barton) Ross of Troupsburg, Cheryl (Timothy) Wheeler of Wilmington, NC and Aaron (Alison) Harrington of Fairport. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Lauren and Brent Ross and Tessa, Lilah and Colin Harrington as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, July 7 from noon to 2 pm at the United Church of Jasper. Funeral services will follow there at 2 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Troupsburg Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
