Obituary of Erma R. Lambert

CANISTEO: Erma R. Lambert, 94, of Slate Creek Rd, died peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by her family at Taylor Health Center in Bath, NY. Born in the town of Hartsville on June 28, 1929, Erma was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Mabel V. (Caward) Mullen. She was a 1948 graduate of Canisteo Central High School and attained her certificate as Secretary in 1949 at the Federal Commercial Schools of Hornell. Erma married James “Jim” Lambert on Valentine’s Day 1958 in Hornell. They settled in the rural Slate Creek valley and were married for 52 years prior to Jim’s death in March 2010. In addition to her husband Jim, Erma is predeceased by her parents and her infant son, “Bobby” Lambert (1969). Erma is survived by her daughters, Karen (Gordon) Storms of Fillmore, and Mary (Paul) Houser of Lafayette, IN; sons, Daniel (Linda) Lambert of Avoca, and Bryan (Neal) Lambert of West Irondequoit; sisters, Eloise Hilsdorf, Jane Campbell, and Kathleen Shepherd, all of Canisteo; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a multitude of extended family and many friends. Erma worked for a number of years at Marion Rohr in Hornell, both in the factory and in the business office, after which she became a full-time homemaker and stay-at-home mother. Later, she became an independent home health aide until her retirement. Erma enjoyed crochet and needlepoint, often gifting her finished work to charities. An active member of Bennetts Creek Bible Church in Greenwood for many years, Erma served for a time as treasurer, custodian, assisted with vacation bible school, dinners and other community events. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Bennetts Creek Bible Church, 3740 State Route 248, Canisteo. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, followed by burial at Bennetts Creek Cemetery in Greenwood.
