Obituary of Sherman S. Calkins

Sherman S. Calkins, 92, a resident of Absolut Care at Three Rivers in Painted Post, and formerly of Woodhull, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Three Rivers. Sherm was born on June 2, 1931, the son of the late Earl G. and Leah (Davenport) Calkins. He was the last surviving of six Calkins siblings. Sherm had attended Woodhull High School and was a lifelong resident of Woodhull. He had been employed briefly by RF Reynolds Co. in Woodhull as well as the Williams Saw Mill in Addison. He was a self-employed farmer in Woodhull and was very self-sufficient, able to meet most basic needs by either growing it or building it. Sherm is survived by many nieces and nephews including a very special nephew, Pat Calkins, now residing in Wellsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Leah Calkins, his brothers, Rensyler D. Calkins and Roy Calkins and his sisters, Geraldine Sly, Waneta Brown and Eileen Patterson. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 4 at 4:00 pm at the Woodhull Cemetery Chapel. Burial will be made in Woodhull Cemetery. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
