Obituary of William J. “Bill” Freberg

REXVILLE: William J. “Bill” Freberg, 70, of Cemetery Hill Rd. passed away peacefully Sunday morning, July 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by the comfort, love and care of his family after a long illness. Bill was born July 14, 1953 in North Hornell, to the late John and Pauline (Rude) Freberg. On May 25, 1974 at St. Mary’s Church in Rexville, he married the former Eugenia Cerrillo who survives and resides in Rexville. Bill spent his early years growing up in the Troupsburg area as well as Elkland, Pa. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years and at one time owned and operated Freberg’s Country Store in Rexville. He and his wife were very involved in foster parenting for a number of years. He enjoyed woodworking, operating his saw mill, cutting firewood, mowing lawns, gardening and stock car racing. In addition to his wife, Eugenia Freberg, Bill is survived by two sons Jesse (Erin) Freberg and Adam Freberg all of Rexville, a daughter Sara (Tom) Weller of Alfred, grandchildren Austin and Chloe Freberg, Cianna Weller, Weston and Chase Freberg. He is also survived by two sisters Valerie Croft of Wellsboro, Pa. Doris Davis of Derry, N.H. and a brother Steven (Lori) Freberg of Wayland, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place Thursday August 3, 2023 at 11:00 am. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to either the West Union Fire Dept. c/o Don Meehan, 1438 Cty. Rte. 98, Rexville, N.Y. 14877 or to the non-profit cancer organization, Sully & the Ladies in Pink, 9605 Nunda-Dalton Rd., Dalton, NY 14836. Arrangements are with H.P. Smith & Son, Inc.
