Charles B. Lucas, age 75, of Woodhull, NY, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023
Chuck was born on January 19, 1948 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Alvy J. and Mary Frances (Chase) Lucas. Following high school, Chuck entered the US Navy, serving from 1967 to 1971. He then attended Alfred State College for a year.
It was at Alfred that Chuck met his future wife and fellow student Carol Drake. They were married on April 7th 1973 at the West Jasper Wesleyan Church. They resided in the Rochester area for a few years while Chuck was serving his apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication. They then moved to Woodhull where they have made their home since.
Chuck was a sheet metal journeyman, employed by Local 112, Sheet Metal Workers Union for 30 years. He was a longtime Grange member, having served as President of both the Jasper Grange and the Steuben County Pomona Grange. He also was a member of the State and National Granges.
In his youth, Chuck was a Boy Scout, an interest that lived on with his sons as he was a Scout leader in Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts when they were young. He had also been a little league coach and shared his love for the outdoors by spending time fishing, camping and canoeing with his family.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Alvy and Mary Lucas, his sister, Cheryl Mosko, his brother, Lt. Commander Allan Lucas and his brother-in-law, David Drake.
Surviving is Carol Lucas, his wife of 50 years, his children, Brian (Mandy) Lucas of Kenmore, NY, Brent (Kelly) Lucas of Rochester, NY, Beth (Thomas) Fritschi of Switzerland and Briana Lucas of Rochester, his grandchildren, Eliane, Ryder, Katia, Camden and Max, his sister, Mary Ellen (Jason) Davis of Lyndhurst, VA along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 24 from 4 to 6 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Services will be held there on Monday at 11 am with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery.
Memorial donations are requested for the Jasper Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
