Obituary of Michael Dan Potter

Michael Dan Potter, 41, of Space Road, Addison, NY, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 28, 2023 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Andover, NY. Mike was born in Corning on June 21, 1982, the son of James Potter Jr. and Ruth Draper Potter. He was a 2000 graduate of Jasper-Troupsburg Central School. On June 18, 2005, Mike and the former Stephanie Herrington were married in Borden, NY. Mike was currently employed by the Town of Rathbone Highway Department. He had held other jobs in the past including farming, which he loved and was also a very skilled truck driver. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed deer hunting as well as coon hunting. He was a member of the Steuben County Coon Hunters Club in Addison as well as the Addison Fish & Game Club. Mike was always willing to help anyone in need, no matter the time or place. He was a wonderful father, following all the school events of his daughters. He and Steph were often found helping with school sporting events for the girls. They also had begun fostering children in their home. His family was loved dearly by Mike and he was so loved by his family.. Mike is survived by his wife Stephanie Potter and his daughters, Hailey (Josh), Alexis and Madison, all at home, his parents, Jimmy and Paula Potter of Addison and Ruth Butler of Tioga, his brother, James G. (Cindy) Potter of Tioga, his sisters, April (Joe) Divens and Holly (James) Ergott, all of Hornby, his brother-in-law, Anthony (Bethany) Herrington of Addison, his sisters-in-law, Mandi (Robert) Risley, Samantha Herrington and Kristen Morse, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, lifelong friend, Robert (Amanda) Baker of Rathbone and other friends Chris and Jill Lamphier and Danny Draper, as well as his beloved dog, Bo and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Louise Potter and Claude and Rose Draper. A Celebration of Life to honor Mike will be held on Friday, October 6 from 6 to 9 pm at the Addison Fish & Game Club, 8482 McCarthy Road, Addison, NY. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
