GREENWOOD: Richard P. Warriner, 82, of Ste. Rte. 248 Greenwood, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning October 18, 2023 at Elderwood of Hornell following an extended illness. He was born November 29, 1940, in Canisteo, the youngest son of Howard and Lillian (VanDuren) Warriner. On June 25, 1960 in Greenwood, he married the former Lorraine Bassett who survives and resides in Greenwood. Richard was a 1958 graduate of Canisteo Central school and a 1963 graduate of Alfred State College Graduating with an Associate's degree in Ag business. He began working on the family farm during high school and then continued his career as a dairy farmer for the next 20 years. His love of agriculture and people led to his next career of agricultural sales. After many years of working in equipment sales, he then continued to work in fertilizer and feed sales until poor health prevented him from continuing. Richard was a very active community leader. This includes 50 years of being an ordained minister at the Community of Christ Church in Greenwood, 34 years in the Greenwood Fire Department, 15 years as a member and past president of the Canisteo Rotary Club, 12 years as a member of the Greenwood Town Board, and 8 years as a building code inspector. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Lorraine (Bassett) Warriner, his four children and their spouses Lavern and Peggy Warriner of Andover, NY, Bob and Chris Warriner of Advance, North Carolina, Kathy and Jeff Mullen of Canisteo, NY, and Jenifer and Steve Lewis of South Hornell, seventeen grandchildren and their spouses Michael and Clancy Dobell, Megan Dobell Kingston and Chan VanDorn, Matthew Dobell, Bryce Warriner, Kelsey Warriner, Ethan Warriner, Teri Jo and Phill Kibbee, Jessica Burkhead, Bobbie Jo and Jake Forsythe, Sallie Warriner, Sondra Warriner and Brandon Palimisano, Kristy Williamson, Tracy Stillman and Jason Sciotti, Ashley and Tyler Canne, Justin and Tiffany Mullen, Brandon and Libby Lewis, and Rachel Lewis, along with 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and his wife Edmond and Lois Warriner, of Canisteo, his sisters-in-law Arnet Warriner of Arkport, Marrilyn Warriner of Canisteo and Alice Jean Warriner of Rexville. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Lillian Warriner, brothers David Warriner, Howard Warriner, Jr., John Warriner, and his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Clarence Boehnke. Richard was loved by many and will be missed greatly. The family asks that you join them in celebrating Richard's life. Calling hours will be at the H.P Smith and Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from the hours of 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the Community of Christ Church in Greenwood starting at 2:00 pm, with a dinner to follow. Memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to either the Community of Christ Church Food Bank, Main St. Greenwood, NY 14839 or to the Greenwood ambulance, 751 Andover St. Greenwood, NY 14839. Arrangements are in care of H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
