Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CANISTEO/DELAND, FL: James K. Knapp, 44, formerly of Canisteo, passed away October 20, 2023 following an extended battle with multiple health problems.
James was born February 8, 1979 in Dansville to Alan and Susan Knapp. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central school class of 1998. After graduation, he had worked at WalMart Tire Lube Express and at Loohns Cleaners both in Hornell. He started automotive mechanical training at SUNY Alfred Wellsville campus, then transferred to culinary arts until medical conditions became too much for him to continue his education.
James could often be found online playing World of Warcraft, where his alter ego "Duglacha" met "Rii," the alter ego of Diane, the love of his life. What began as a friendship online turned into love at first sight in real life. After being married by "Dragyn" online they went on to get married in real life on June 27, 2008. This was the beginning of the best adventure of his life.
James and Diane spent time in different parts of the country, from New York to Florida to Colorado, back to New York, before finally settling down in Deland, Florida. However, with his love of gaming you could always find him online to hang out with.
James was a beloved uncle to 16 nieces and nephews. He was also a loving pet parent to Thrall and Akira, who were waiting over the rainbow bridge to greet him. Gimli and Zara remain with Diane to keep her company.
James was well loved by everyone that met him and will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife Diane, James is survived by his mother Susan Knapp and her partner James Sterns of Hornell, siblings, Wendy Bartholomew of Hornell, Richard (Natalie) Knapp of the Netherlands, Jean (Louie) Sterns of West Henrietta and Barbara (Mike Lewis) O’Neil of Chesnee, SC.
James was predeceased by his father Alan in 1995 and a sister Deborah Dee Knapp in 2000.
Per James’s wish, his body was donated to science in hopes of helping others with their medical struggles. James will never be forgotten and forever missed.
Memorial contributions in James’s name may be made to either the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Canisteo American Legion Post 846, PO Box 141, Canisteo, NY 14823.
