Obituary of Susanne B. McMindes

CANISTEO: Susanne B. McMindes, 61, of Taylor St. passed away Monday (Feb. 11, 2013) at Rochester General Hospital following a short illness. Sue was born September 12, 1951 in Hornell, to Richard and Liza (Bailey) Nilson. On February 24, 1973 in Canisteo she married Michael McMindes who survives and lives in Canisteo. Sue was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1972. A housewife and mother, who also volunteered her time for many years at the Steuben Rural Ministries in Canisteo. She was also a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Canisteo where she was very active with the youth program. Sue also loved to sew and make clothing. In addition to her husband of 40 years, Michael McMindes, Sue is survived by two sons: Matthew (Sabrina) McMindes of Canisteo and Michael McMindes (Cyndi Prigge) of Dansville. 4 grandsons: Nathan and Trent McMindes and Kasper and Blaine Prigge. She is also survived by three brothers: Edward Nilson of Canisteo, John Nilson of Arkport and Charles Nilson of Atlanta. Two sisters: Mary Nilson of Canisteo and Kathy Cornell of Texas, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. Funeral and committal services will take place Saturday at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, 45 Greenwood St in Canisteo. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to either, Steuben Rural Ministries, 19 West Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823 or the First Baptist Church, 45 Greenwood St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
