Obituary of Barbara J. Strauss

Barbara J. Strauss, 92, of County Route 100, Addison, passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Barbara was born on January 3, 1932 in Elkland, PA, the daughter of Casper and Antoinette Pupa Milinski. She was a graduate of Elkland High School. On September 15, 1951, Barbara and John F. Strauss were married at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Elkland. John preceded her in death on August 14, 2009.
Upon marrying John, Barbara moved to Borden where she was introduced to the life of a farmer’s wife. She and John worked together on the farm operating a dairy for many years as well as later raising beef cows and miniature horses. Here they raised their family together where Barbara loved her role as a homemaker, wife and mom. Barbara and John operated Moren’s Dress Shops in Addison and Elkland with the Addison store being Barbara’s main focus. She was a skilled bookkeeper and provided her services to area businesses as well as their own farm and stores.
A very involved parent, Barbara was always in attendance at school functions and sporting events for her children and later her grandchildren. She and John enjoyed attending parades in the area and traveling together, especially their trips to Alaska.
Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses, Diane and Kevin Reed, John and Candy Strauss, Deborah and Ken Causer and Craig and Bonnie Strauss, all of Addison, her daughter-in-law, Diane Strauss of Addison, 18 grandchildren and their spouses, 73 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Lois Milinski of Elkland and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John Strauss Sr., her son Stephen Strauss in May 2022 and her siblings, Stephen Milinski, Edward Milinski and Leo Milinski, Anna Godomski, Vicky Kozey, Mary Lewis and Jennie Geiser.
Friends may call on Saturday, January 13 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 1 pm with Rev. Patrick Connor officiating.
Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Addison.
