Wilma M. Lamphier, 88, of Woodhull, formerly of Cameron, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Corning Center for Rehabilitation in Corning.
Wilma was born in Rathbone on July 16, 1935, the daughter of the late George D. and Blanche E. (Hurd) Abbey. Raised in Rathbone, she attended Rathbone Rural School.
She married William Oliver Lamphier who later died on January 30, 1980. Wilma had made her home with her daughter Blanche Stephens following Bill’s death.
Wilma had worked as a babysitter as a young woman but eventually went to work as a line worker for the former Westinghouse Electric Co. in Bath.
Surviving Wilma are her children, Blanche (Andy) Stephens of Woodhull, Joyce Lamphier (Robert Hobbs) of Adrian, Mabel Lamphier of Belmont and Russell Lamphier of McCoy, FL, her daughter-in-law, Michele Lamphier of Atlanta, NY, her grandchildren, William (Shearee) Stephens, Andy Stephens Jr., John Stephens, Willis Stephens, Christina Stephens, Donald Sherman, Linda (Curt) Grooms, Shawnerae Miles-Cox and Joshua Maynard Avery, her great grandchildren, Caitlin Howell, William Stephens Jr., Bailey Stephens, Amaya Stephens, Ashton Stephens, Silias Stephens, Dowownae Grooms and Hunter Grooms, her great-great grandchildren, Payton Howell, Alaric Howell, Caroline Howell and Kayla Howell, her brother, David (Ruth) Abbey of Painted Post and many nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her son, George Lamphier, her son-in-law, Donald Sherman, her brothers, Leon, Willis, Roger, Leroy, Bernard, Lester and Curtis Abbey and Sheldon Simons and her sisters, Virginia Abbey, Marilyn Abbey and Esther Nelson.
Friends may call on Wednesday, February 7 from noon to 2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
