Laurence Erwin Kent, 94, of Warsaw, NY, formerly of Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Eastside Nursing Facility in Warsaw. Laurence was born on August 26, 1929 on the family farm in Jasper to the late Rodney and Catherine McCaig Kent. He was a graduate of Jasper Central School and attended Cornell University for two years. . Laurence married Caroline Alleger on July 18, 1959. Caroline preceded him in death on January 27, 2012. Laurence and Caroline operated their family dairy farm together in Jasper where they raised their children. Laurence was an avid historian, especially local history. He was instrumental in preserving the “Wigwams” in Jasper as a museum to showcase local history. He belonged to the Town of Jasper Historical Society, was a former Town Assessor and Town Board member. He held membership in the Smithsonian Institute as well as the National Farmers Organization. He is survived by his children, Alton Kent (Dawn Murphy) of Jasper and Lanita (Tim) Pajda of Attica along with his grandchildren, Katherine (Nate) Kent Roy, Dylan Kent, John Michael Kent, Jacob Kent, Joshua Kent, Allison Pajda and Cassidy Pajda and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Caroline, Laurence was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur Kent and Oscar Kent. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 4 at 3 pm, preceded by a session of visitation prior from 1 to 3 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Revs. Stanley Kent and Trevor Price will officiate. Burial will be made in Spencer Cemetery in Jasper.
