Obituary of Mary E. Pickett

CAMERON: Mary E. Pickett, 94, of McMaster Rd. passed away peacefully Saturday morning March 23, 2024 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Laurie and David Quick, after an extended illness. Mary was born April 3, 1929 in Otego, NY to the late Alonzo and Ethel (Welch) Loucks. On July 25, 1948 she married Carl A. Pickett and honeymooned in Nashville, TN. They revisited Nashville celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998 and from there went on to San Antonio, Tx, to visit their grandson graduate from basic training. Carl predeceased Mary, February 1, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Cameron where she was a stay-at-home mother raising her family as well as babysitting the neighborhood kids and even opening her home to a number of weddings. She and her late husband enjoyed camping and traveling many places in the United States and made a trip to Nuremberg, Germany. Mary was a survivor of breast cancer and will be remembered as a lady with a pleasant smile and easy disposition. She is survived by two sons Roland (Marilyn) Pickett and Bruce Pickett of Cameron, three daughters, Brenda Cromwell, Lisa (Glen) Crane and Laurie (David) Quick all of Cameron. Grandchildren, Carl (Cristina) Hiles, Joe Quick, Josh Stuart, Ronnie Trudeau, Christina (Chris) Davis, Peggy (Dan) May, Chrystal Quick (Brooks), Shannon (Justin) Reisman, Samantha Sutton, Julie Pickett and Sherri (Patrick) Donnivan, several great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by four sisters Genevieve Bryan, Norma Buckley, Vonnie (Frank) Caparulo, Jane (Robert) Dunn and Carol (Tammy) Loucks, two brothers, Phil (Betty) Loucks and Gary Loucks. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by two sons, Edward Pickett in 1998 and David Pickett in 2018, a grandson Michael Stuart in 1988, granddaughter Kimberlee (Hiles) Davis in 2014, son-in-law David Cromwell in 2005, daughter-in-law Liz Pickett in 2017, also predeceased by seven brothers, Alonzo, Bernard, Louie, Richard, Robert Larry and Ralph Loucks. The family would like to acknowledge the warm and wonderful care given by the nurses and staff of Care First as well as family and friends in the Cameron community. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 6:00 pm. Burial will be in Townline Cemetery in the town of Rathbone. Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to Care First, 3805 Meads Creek Rd. Painted Post, NY 14870.
