Obituary of Kathryn Louise Dempsey

BELLE HAVEN: Kathryn Louise Dempsey entered into eternal life on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Jones Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troupsburg on July 2, 1931 to Leon and Mary Elizabeth (Graham) Green, Kathryn spent the majority of her life in the Troupsburg area. Later in life, she moved to Busti, NY and lived for the past 30 years in Canisteo. On October 5, 1949, Kathryn married Terrance J. Dempsey who predeceased her on October 20, 2001. Together they raised 6 children on their dairy farm on Dempsey Rd. in Troupsburg. She is survived by her children, Mary (Norman) Plumstead of Westfield, Pa., Patricia (Herbert) Baker of Woodhull, Susette (Fredrick) Johnson of Stuarts Draft, VA, John (Lori) Dempsey of Troupsburg, Diane (Thomas) Plank of Westfield, Pa. and Michelle (Gary) White of Troupsburg, 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her sister-in law Mary Ellen Celli. In addition to her parents, step-father Forrest Kirkland, and husband, Kathryn was predeceased by her infant daughter Sharon, an infant granddaughter Teresa Dempsey, and siblings Rosanne Winnie and Donald Green. Kathryn worked various jobs throughout her life including retail jobs and her latest job as a home health aide and a nurse’s assistant. Anyone who knew Kathryn knew she had a fiery spirit full of grit and determination. Kathryn will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 25th from 6-8 pm at the H.P. Smith and Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, April 26th at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery, Rexville. Memorial contributions in Kathryn’s name may be made to the donor’s choice. Arrangements are with H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
