Gloria Austin was a unique and billiant Woman. She changed my Life and I changed her's as well.. I had the distinct honor of serving as Gloria's Executive Director of the Florida Carriage Museum for a number of years. It was during this time I introduced Gloria to Dr. Gene Serra MD. and their romance became legend for over 20 years. Gloria and Gene traveled the World together and also became Champion Ball Room Dancers, all the while caring for each other deeply. . I miss them and pray thet are together again in Heaven.

I remember Gloria back in 1975 when I went to work for Paychex, Inc. in Rochester, NY. She was always very welcoming and friendly with a smile on her face for us employees at that time. I remember when she moved to take over an office on her own and I was amazed at the challenge she had at that time. In more recent years we have enjoyed camping at Grand Oaks where she lived and loved seeing all the carriages she owned at one time. We wish her peace and will always remember her smiling face.

The passing of Gloria Austin leaves a large hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her Carriage Museum was a final tribute to her love of the horse, carriages and history. I was thrilled to be a docent at the museum and enjoyed giving tours to people from all over the world who enjoyed seeing her amazing collection. Betty Sentor and I walked the grounds yesterday as a memorial to Gloria and our time spent as docents.
We will miss this talented woman, Judy Linker

I first met Gloria when she returned to her home town of Troupsbug, NY in the mid 1980's. Gloria and her second husband Vernon Eddy had purchased a farm neighboring our dairy farm and were starting a new venture raising miniature horses. Gloria's farm also had Hereford cattle, draft and riding horses and a beautiful gray pony named Angel. During that time we often looked after their farm when she and Vernon travelled.
Our childen were elementary school aged and loved Angel as she was just the right size for them. On one visit to Gloria's farm she asked if we would like to have Angel as our own - we took her home with us that day. Angel was broke to ride and drive and she gave our family many years of enjoyment doing everything from pulling a sleigh in the winter to trail riding in summer. Thank you Gloria for the blessing of that wonderful pony! While Gloria was residing in Troupsburg she also helped to found the High Horse Saddle Club, a family oriented club based in Steuben and Allegany Counties. This club was active for many years sponsoring horse shows and trail rides.
One summer my husband and I mentioned to Gloria that we would sometime like to take our children to Disney World. The following fall Gloria handed us the keys to her home in Lady Lake, Florida and invited us to stay there so that we could take a family vacation to Disney World.
We were friends and neighbors for several years but eventually ours' and Gloria's lives moved in other directions and we lost touch. However we have many happy memories of the time we spent with her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, she loved to laugh, and she was a kind and generous friend.

It is impossible, in a few words, to say how blessed my life has been to be connected ( as a docent for many years) with the one-of-a-kind Gloria A. Austin. She was truly a remarkable person - collecting carriages from around the world and bringing them all together to form the Grand Oaks Carriage Museum, which is as unique as Gloria herself. She enjoyed sharing and teaching, young and old, about her love of horses and carriages. Few people have achieved the position of respect and high esteem which she enjoyed for so many years in this community .I feel blessed to have been a small part of her life and have so many treasured memories thanks to my association with Gloria and the Museum. Gloria threw a wonderful Halloween Party for all the docents and employees. The crackling fire, by the scenic pond and spooky tale of the " Headless Horseman ", she recounted, will remain etched in my memory. I still find myself drawn to the beauty of the Grand Oaks. Gloria's passing will be a great loss to all, around the world, who knew her.
Warmly

In the passing of Gloria, we've lost a light that shone bright with intelligence, kindness and richness of spirit. We witnessed her generosity unfold effortlessly combined with an analytical mind in her fascinating world of equines. Cherishing two decades of cherished companionship with Dr. Gene Serra MD was testimony to their unshakeable bond formed through my introduction. Their love story danced across continents as Gloria perfectly pirouetted between equine passion and life in the Philippines. May we find comfort in knowing they are dancing together in heaven's embrace once more.
